Carlos
Aguilar, the founder of A Home Upholstery, is a true American success
story. He came to the United States from Peru in 1963, with a
background in accounting. But, accounting was not to be his chosen path.
In 1964, he became an apprentice in furniture manufacturing. He didn’t
know it at the time, but this vocation was soon to become his passion
and his career.

Throughout the next seven years, Carlos continued to work at various
furniture businesses where he acquired more knowledge and more skill in
all the different styles of furniture building and reupholstery. He learned
everything he could about how to work on each piece and build it from
scratch. He learned how to work with different pieces of wood and what
it takes to restore broken arms, legs, or frames. And he learned how to
be a problem solver. He discovered he was able to develop creative solutions
to any upholstery problem or any furniture repair problem.

Now he was ready to strike out on his own. So, in 1971 Carlos opened
the doors of A Home Upholstery in Norwalk, California. From these humble
beginnings, Carlos has continued to build a successful business that offers
quality service at a reasonable price. In 2000, the business moved to
its current location in Fountain Valley, California.

Most of his business is from referrals because he is known for being
fair and honest with his customers. The customers know their time will
be valued and that they will be treated with respect. He is still the
problem solver that customers know they can count on to help them make
the right decision. You can trust his honest evaluations.
